Crenny (also known as McTucker or Kraig) is the romantic pairing of Kenny McCormick and Craig Tucker.

Origin

In the episode "Super Fun Time", when the fourth grade class were told to divide into partners at Pioneer Village, Kenny chose to be partners with Craig rather than any of the main boys, particularly Eric Cartman, who ripped on him in return. Like all partnered characters, they were seen holding hands per Mr. Garrison's instruction. Craig's prominence throughout the season spurned a rise in his popularity in the same period.

In the earlier episode "Quest for Ratings", Craig had also let Kenny join in the production of his show "Animals Close-Up With a Wide-Angle Lens" when the other boys rejected Kenny's assistance. After the airing of "Super Fun Time", these two examples - among Kenny's only interactions with another recurring child character - suggested the two had a friendship outside the main characters, though in "Pandemic" and "Elementary School Musical", Kenny and Craig seem to identify once more from separate cliques.

Interestingly, in "Here Comes the Neighborhood", it was revealed that the Tucker family is on welfare, and "The Poor Kid" re-affirms that Craig's family is lower income; though they have not interacted in this capacity in the series, since Kenny's family is also poor and on welfare, the two boys have often bonded over this in fanfiction.

In the more recent "Black Friday" trilogy, Kenny and Craig are both key players in the PlayStation 4 supporting team, with Craig expressing surprise when Kenny is made an official Japanese princess.

Popularity

Initially a relatively obscure pairing, as Craig became a more prominent character in the show the pairing gained significant attention, especially during the twelfth and thirteenth seasons, spurned by a small but tight-knit group of supporters for the ship, who produced a fair amount of fanfiction around the pairing in this era.

It has seen a significant resurgence in popularity in the last few years, however, primarily supported by a new set of fans who produce fanfiction almost exclusively for this pairing, and Crenny-specific community projects, leading to more outside attention and growth. It is widely considered the second most popular Craig-centric ship after Creek (which is reflected in Archive of Our Own's statistics) and is also one of the most popular Kenny ships.

It’s like reading comprehension. When you try to read a book and don’t understand it, then come back to it years later. Mind sharper, the words easier. Craig is becoming increasingly easier to turn pages to.
