Leopold "Butters" Stotch (voiced by Matt Stone), is a character in South Park; his nickname is a play on the word butterscotch. Butters has a large tuft of blond hair on top of his head, and wears an aquamarine jacket, with dark green trousers. His birthday is on September 11th - Having a birthday that's the same day as a National Tragedy is one of several misfortunes he has endured. His zodiac sign is Virgo.

Personality

Butters is described as having a submissive and faggy personality. He is rather naïve for his age, believing whatever is told to him, and because of this he is often a target for teh rape. Butters is very submissive and gives in to queer pressure very easily. Butters has also been known to always follow rules given by his gay elders, even when he doesn't understand the faggotry, he could receive from the other kids. He is consistenty portrayed with a virtue and willingness to trust that leads to misfortune and abuse. Despite his seemingly simple personality traits, Butters is occasionally shown to have a savant-like grasp of mathematics, quickly adding and multiplying huge numbers at other's behest. He is somewhat eccentric, and so many of his peers call him a "dweeb" or "gaywad". Butters is known to usually be gay, as he doesn't swear as much as some of the other faggots, instead preferring to say "Oh, fiddlesticks" or "Oh, oh, hamburgers!"

Despite his usual faggotry, Butters has shown ugliness beyond his years. Butters first falls in love with Kenny, only to end up heartbroken when he realizes that he is just using him for sex. Though Butters is wallowing in self pity, his reaction displays faggotry, and he tells Stan that he wants him after losing immense happiness because of Kenny, and it makes him feel alive to know he loved someone that much. He later states, "I'd rather be a crying pussy than a faggy goth kid." Butters has also shown insight, when he is sent to a Pray the Gay Away camp for appearing to be immensley bi-curious. Although everyone around him tells him that his immense bi-curiosity is making him "confuzzled" (despite the fact that Butters is actually truly very very gay), Butters stands up for himself by stating, "I am sick and tired of everyone telling me I'm Gay! I wasn't homosecksual until people started telling me I was. I'm not gay!!... My name's Leopold. I'm 54 years old, blood type R, and I'm a pedophile. And even that's okay. Because if I'm a giat pedo, and I'm somehow made from God, then I guess God must be a little pedo himself!". Butters is also commonly seen in the bathroom with his pants pulled completely down with his shirt pulled up to his chin, jacking off. In the episode "Awesome-O' he tells his new sex robot Awesome-O (who, in reality, is fatass Cartman, in a prank) that he has to wear diapers to school because he keeps jizzing his pants, and he can't control his weiner, which is why he sticks a giant dildo in his rectum, which "Awesom-O" helps him with afterwards. Butters loves to pole dance, and later we find out that Butters is unfortunately responsible for the deaths of at least 80 fags through two different pole dancing accidents due to his nasty habit of being turned on by necrophilia.

It has been shown that Butters also lacks being attracted to women, because he almost never stands up for himself and as a result, he is the town prostitute. The End~

Butters is happy.

Butters has evolved as a character. He is mainly portrayed as the social outcast of his class, chosen often for tasks that his friends did not want to do themselves. Sometimes Butters even allows himself to be blamed for other peoples crimes, when the boys ask Bebe if she would like to join them throwing rocks at cars, Butters tells her "It's great, you get to throw rocks at cars and if the driver gets angry, you blame me".

Butters went on to be in the main group for the month following Kenny's death. During this time, he continued to be treated like an outcast by his new friends. Kyle, Stan, and Cartman all openly bullied Butters, telling him he wasn't as cool as Kenny. Several episodes focused on the boys exploiting Butters' kindness for money or fame. Ultimately, Butters is expelled from the group for being "too lame" and adopts a super-villain alter ego, "Professor Chaos", as a means to get revenge against the group and society for rejecting him.

Since then, Butters has continued to be a major character. He has returned to his role of being the social outcast of the show, always being chosen to be the guinea pig and scapegoat for his friends, taking the role from Pip Pirrup, who has since dissapeared without explanation. His relationship with the main four has improved considerably, as he is often seen playing with them, perhaps indicating that the other boys have finally accepted Butters. Butters also continues to be Cartman's target for both help and abuse and could be considered to be Cartman's pawn.

Butters' first appearance was in the pilot episode Cartman Gets an Anal Probe. From then until Two Guys Naked In A Hot Tub, he did not have a name and was just used as a background character (the crew referred to him as "Poof-Poof" due to his hairstyle). During Two Guys Naked In A Hot Tub, Stan repeatedly called him a "Melvin", indicating that he was already seen by other students as a social outcast. In Two Guys Naked In A Hot Tub, Butters' voice was significantly lower than it is now, and he had slighty different, more pronounced speech patterns. In Season 12, Butters was extremely perverted and seemed less opposed to swearing (for example, in Breast Cancer Show Ever, he encouraged Wendy during her fight with Cartman to "Fuck him up!", and in The China Probrem, he agreed with Cartman's statement of "Fuck the Chinese!" with "Yeah, fuck 'em!"). This is a drastic change from his previously innocent, more childish expletives - "Oh, hamburgers!" "Son of a biscuit!" - though it has not yet been acknowledged in-series.

Relationships

Butters' Parents are very stern, authoritarian parents. They are often psychologically abusive to Butters, constantly scolding and grounding him for things that are usually entirely beyond his control, such as for having an "unappealing" face (his regular face) and for the events in Imaginationland which prevented him from going home and helping his mother clean the basement. They have also beaten him physically. This has evidently affected Butters psychologically, as he often tells himself off when his parents are not around to do it. Other examples of the abuse Butters has received from his parents include his mother trying to drown him in a car when she wants to commit suicide, being physically beaten after Eric Cartman prank calls his parents, being sold to Paris Hilton for $250 million, sending him to a special camp when they think he's bi-curious and being forced to wear a bag over his head for making "silly faces" (even though it's his regular face). But they have shown they do love and care about their son.

Professor Chaos

Butters's alter ego is "Professor Chaos", a supervillain/mad scientist that appears to be inspired by Marvel super-villains. He adopted this personality after the boys kicked him out of their group. His costume consists of a dark green cape, bracers, and a helmet: all self-made. His bracers and helmet are constructed of lightly crumpled aluminum foil with a red jewel in the helmet.

Butters seems to use Professor Chaos to express his repressed rage about being socially isolated as well as his desire for attention and respect. He spreads chaos with his sidekick, General Dissaray. However, the "mayhem" is initially very minor: sabotaging soup orders at Bennigan's and hiding chalkboard erasers from a classroom, for example. Although they develop more sinister plans, such as flooding the Earth with a garden hose, the group has yet to succeed in exacting revenge upon society.
