I feel like you shouldn’t care for what people say, if people hate fan content, who cares? Let people enjoy what they want, stop trying to be people pleasing, especially to the normie side of the south park fandom.

Let them ship whatever we want, like Stendy, Creek, Bunny and Heiman. And let them have their own opinions & views.

i do try to read fanfics occasionally as a way of supplementing the show, and i would probably do so more if it weren't such a struggle to find stuff with a vibe that isn't angst, fluff, or child erotica. anything to improve navigation and discovery would be welcomed.

personally, i'm happy with the ship pages staying up. deleting stuff is a very kyle's mom thing to do.

Part of why this is hard is because 99% of our fanfiction pages are basically blank. A lot of fanon wikis are usually supported by people adding their own fic or fic they love, rather than a team of editors automatically adding stuff that exists... and I've stopped doing a lot of the latter because a consistent problem is people thinking I endorse everything I've listed, which is part of why I'm open about wishing I could trash this entire site.

I used to write stuff that included some general interest work and some ship fic. I had about five regular reviewers and two or three of them turned out to just be so antislash that my work seemed good in comparison. It kind of turned me off the thought people really want the kind of light content they claim to.

I have noticed that a lot of people don't seem to understand the point of this wiki. I see a lot of people creating pages for fanfic ideas or OCs, but none of these stories actually exist and the OCs don't appear in any fics or videos.

I'm all for the shipping pages, but a lot of people are creating pages just for the hell of it and not providing any proof that fanworks for these ships exist.

@JohnVMaster you're too old to care what people think of you. and for the record, i read your murder mansion thing, and it was really good!

i don't expect anyone to put in any more work than what they want to put in, but this whole "sense of scandal" excuse just sounds like worthless anxiety, and trying to posture for random outsiders that you should have no reason to care about. while it's of course obvious to every reasonable person that cataloging something is not the same as endorsing it, i also kinda want ask why the hell not endorse all of it!? the value of something isn't strictly in what its content is; it's also in how it came to be, and how the community engages with it. i think "kyle in chains" is always going to be more valuable than some masterpiece that an ai generates because there's some human story behind its creation, and because of the comedy, analysis, memes, and debates that something like that generates. not to mention the whole other half of this, which is that the act of creating stuff is good for its own sake. any means of encouraging people to spend more time creating seems like a good thing to me.

i actually suspect the golden years of fan content are still in the future. as media becomes more decentralized, and copy-write laws become more obsolete and unenforceable, i foresee a world where people are turning away from big studios, but still seeking the familiar, and they're using text to speech with ai generative character voices, and using increasingly available and user-friendly animation software to turn everything into cartoons that they can watch. this little trashy site of yours might just get a moderate amount of traffic some day.

@UrAllStupid I usually try to leave the pages up for a period of time in case anyone goes back and fixes them down the line, and then delete several of them in a short period. It used to be around once a month but these days it's been longer.

I also started a project last year where I was trying to follow your lead on linking the shipping pages to ao3 tags (that was excellent, one of the best ideas anyone has ever had on this wiki!) and lost steam somewhere.

@JohnVMaster I personally don’t see any problem with people appreciating fan-related content or the fans producing it themselves, so long as they don’t harm others or become too fixated on a false idea. I think OCs and fanon content are a part of many fan’s enjoyment, although I can understand how some people would be bothered or even annoyed by something that is not truly canon to a show. The fandom is a very strange place at times admittedly , but this is true for much of the world nowadays.

I feel that society too easily triggered things in modern times and that certain topics have become very sensitive for a lot of us, speaking from experience. You shouldn’t mind what the haters think however and should simply ignore what others have to say. It’s important for people to do what makes them happy in the end and live a life according the things they value the most, and to also remember that there will always be critics out there regardless of what they do.

I do agree with a lot of points you brought up however and realize that many users seem to not understand the purpose of this wiki, as others have mentioned. It’s good that you are open to suggestions and posting about this topic, as it will likely help improve the wiki in the future.
